(Noriker)
When the Romans came to Austria in the
beginning of the first millennium they found with the local Celtic
population heavily built working horses, which got their name
from "Noricum" the ancient Roman province (today Styria
and Carinthia in Austria). Nowadays you can still find Noric-horse-breeds
that are quite heavily built in Middle Europe and they fit perfectly
into the category "cold bloods". Norics from Austria
are genuine "cold bloods".

The mechanization of agriculture called
for a heavier type of horse with a use not solely restricted
to riding and driving. The horse should also be able to serve
as a farm horse, by pulling all kinds of rolling machinery and
equipment. Nowadays the Noric is used for driving, harness, riding
and showing.

In the Dachstein Tauern Region we are very famous for the "Blauschimmel" or "Mohrenkopf" type. Strict criteria are used during breeding to preserve the Noric horse. Apart from the Equestrian Center we have a national stallion farm "Tritscherhof" in Ramsau am Dachstein/Austria with two "Blauschimmel - Mohrenkopf" Noric stallions and two Haflinger stallions. The quality of our breeding area shows in the high number of very good mares. The Dachstein Tauern Region is famous for high quality breeding.
